Tuscany

The Toscana or Tuscan region is located on the west coast of Italy, on the cusp of the Tyrrhenian Seas. Mainly hilly and mountainous, the archipelago explands both to sandy beaches and tiny islands.

Known for its viticulture, the regions of Tuscany have their own surprises for the avid wine conneusseur depending on any of its regions—Casentino, Chianti, Lunigiana, Maremma, Mugello, Val di Chiana, Valdorcia and Versilia. The most famous regional vintages are Chianti, Morellino di Scansano and Brunello di Montalcino.

The region of boasts a number of wines with a "Denominazione di Origine Controllata" DOC and the more sought after "Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita" DOCG certificate, which witness the strong dedication of Tuscan people of their knowledge of wine-making techniques.

The capital town of the Tuscan region is Florence, with notable cities Pisa, Sienna, Carrara, Castiglion Fiorentino, Grosetto, Livorno, Lucca among others.

Tuscany has two very diverse faces traverse its rustic wine-making roots as well as the more artistic cities such as Florence, Siena, Lucca and Pisa whose art represent the spectrum of ancient Italian and post-modern history. The famed "Cities of Art" in the region are Florence with its galleries and gardens, Lucca, Pisa with its famed Leaning Tower, Siena, San Gimignano, as well as on the coast and in the isles such as Elba.

The natural beauties of its 120 protected reserves such as the National Park of Argentario as well as the Isle of Elba are testament to the inspiration behind such artistry.
