Trentino

The autonomous province of Trentino in the mountainous region in north-eastern Italy. Its rugged peaks are offset with the Valle dell’Adige (Adige Valley) at its heart, named primarily for the river Adige that flows through it.

Known as one of the valley communes, the region’s principal villages are found in the Valle dell’Adige is with a main valley crossing it in its center. Today it is known as a region of rich-cultural heritage, as well as one of affluence with produce in wine, agriculture, such as apples and grapes for wine, and high-technology industries, such as hydro-electricity, at the base of its economy.

The natural beauty of the region can be sampled by guests who visit any of its three national parks, the Adamello-Brenta, the Paneveggio-Pale of S. Martino and the Stelvio, protected enclaves for alpine wildlife.

There are also many famous resorts that cater to both local and international guests wanting to escape the city life for a more relaxed pace against the sunny Alpine climes. There is Madonna di Campiglio, San Martino di Castrozza, Fiera di Primiero, Canazei, Moena, as well as Cavalese.

During Easter the fields around Trento are in bloom with apple blossoms. A stroll through the streets of its capital city, Trento, confirms this mix of the ancient in the frescos of the historic buildings and large manors outside of the city, with the more urbane shops and business areas. Take a lesisurely afternoon stroll across the ancient Piazza Duomo, and view Reinaissance art that once adorned the royalty of old at the Castello del Buonconsiglio (with the reknowned Torre Aquila).

In the locality, castles that still carry its medieval splendor abound, most often preserved as hotels where guests can travel back in time. Among them, are the Castel d'Appiano Castel Ganda, Castel Roncolo, the episcopal castle of Bressanone, the Tures castle of Campo Tures; Castelbello of Castelbello, Casteldarne of Casteldarne, and the Castel Monteleone of Cermes. In these ancient retreats, friendly locals invite a sample of famous local wines relatively unknown outside of the country such as the Teroldego wines, as well as grappe and spirits.
