Lake Como
The area of Lake Como in the Lombardy region of northern Italy is part of the celebrated Italian Lake district.
With its area, Lake Como is known as the third largest lake in the country, and one of the continent’s deepest lakes with depths of more than 200 meter below sea level.
With the glacial mountains contributing to this freshwater lake, the alpine jewel of the area makes it a sought-after holiday spot for visitors and locals alike. Lake Como was discovered over 2,000 years ago by the Romans who choose it as one of their favoured retreats
The main town of Como towards the southern tip of the lake is a famed resort town with many European celebrities owning homes by the lakeside. For over centuries, the area has been an ideal vacation retreat with its crisp mountain air, cool fresh waters as well as calm, laid-back atmosphere.
The famed Bellagio town is located at the junction of the two 'legs' of the lake who scenic views invite tranquil escapes for visitors. Other towns in the area are Menaggio, which is the main town located on the western shore of the lake, Varenna located on the lake’s eastern shore known also for the relaxing gardens of Villa Cipresi as well as Villa Monestro, the towns of Colico and Lecca to the south of the lake.
Guests are enjoined to visit the beautiful island of Isola Comacina (Comacina Island) on the Lake Como, with its seven ancient Byzantine churches, most notable of which is small Romanesque style church of San Giacomo.
